Question: What were the unique characteristics of each of the patriarchs (Abraham, Isaac and Jacob)?
Abram (Abraham), was the selected Father of the Jewish race; because of his sincere heart before Almighty God, which God knew he would keep focused on Him, as He gave him instructions to leave behind his father’s Idols, and travel where He guided him. For his faithfulness, God promised him a son even though his wife was barren!
Eventually, despite his wife's doubts (and her direction of Abram towards her servant Hagar, which produced Ishmael), God granted her a son by Abram, Isaac! He was a son of miracle, as both Abram and Sarah were of great age (approx.100 years)! It is true to say that because of this event, the Jewish race is one of “Miracle”, which was to lead to the miracle of Christ’s Birth later, for the World’s Salvation!
Jacob was the son of Isaac and Rebecca; who “acquired” the birth-right of his father with the help of his mother, which led to his estrangement with his birth -twin (Esau). Because of the apparent promiscuity at that time of the “Nephilim”; after his father’s “blessing”, he went to live and work with his uncle Laban, his mother’s brother, and after 7 years working for Laban he married Leah, and after 7 more years he married Rachel!
Jacob, after a “meeting” with an angelic being (The Holy Spirit?) had his name changed to Israel (Gen. 32:22–32); he later became the father of the 12 Tribes (of Israel)!
